What is mindfulness and how may it help me?

Simply put, mindfulness involves training the mind to pay attention to what’s happening in the present moment (e.g. thoughts, bodily sensations, emotions), on purpose and without judgement.  It’s a really powerful practice because it can interrupt the habit of getting lost in negative and worrisome thoughts about past and future. We can begin (through practice) to open up to whatever arises in the now and allow thoughts and feelings to pass through, rather than getting stuck in unhelpful cycles of worry and regret. Mindfulness helps us to adopt a less resistant and more curious approach to all of our experiences, without labelling them as good or bad.  This can help us to connect with the more expansive and joyful parts of ourselves. Mindfulness may be practised formally (e.g. through sitting meditation practice), or informally (e.g. through simply paying more attention) in our everyday lives. There now exists a huge body of clinical evidence to suggest that mindfulness can help with a very wide range of issues including: stress reduction, improved relationships, greater confidence and self esteem, better sleep, reduced anxiety and depression and pain reduction.  You may experience a whole host of other potential positive impacts, some of which may be immediately apparent and some of which will reveal themselves over time. My hope is that through mindfulness teaching and practice you will experience the gift of feeling more peaceful and at ease within yourself.

Are your premises accessible for me?

My room is on the ground floor with one small, low step into the building. There is a cobbled floor surface outside in Brookfield Yard. If this will cause you any issues in terms of accessibility, or if you have any questions, please let me know and we can talk about any adjustments I can make. I am very happy to help with these where possible.

How do I get to you?

Travel by car: Please enter S7 1DY into your Sat Nav. Brookfield Yard itself does not have any allocated parking spaces so please don’t drive into the cobbled yard. There is free on-street parking on Brookfield Road and the residential streets nearby. Whilst it tends to be fairly easy to get a parking space, you may want to arrive a little early to allow yourself ample time

Travel by public transport: Abbeydale Road is well served by multiple, frequent bus routes including the 75, 76, 97, and 98 buses. Brookfield Yard is a 2-3 minute walk from the nearest bus stop.

Once you are booked in for a session or a course I will send you an information sheet with further details about my room.
